Writing ‘ The Canterbury Tales”

Geoffrey Chaucer was born in 1343 in London to a successful wine merchant. He served as a page to a daughter-in-law of the king. He traveled to France and Italy many times during his life as a messenger to the king. In 1374 Chaucer became a government official as a comptroller of customs. He also wrote great poems and stories and was fluent in Latin and translated many books from Latin to English. On October 25, 1400, he died. He was buried in Westminster abbey. 

He is most remembered for his story, the Canterbury Tales. It was a collection of stories told by many pilgrims traveling from London to St. Thomas a Becket at Canterbury. The tales are so popular that it was made into the movie ‘A Knights Tale’
