Student of the Month: At the end of each month from September though May, teachers nominate students to be student of the month. To receive this award students must be passing all classes, and have no behavioral referrals.
Caught Being Kind: Teachers and staff can give any student a slip when they are "caught being kind" to a teacher, staff member or fellow student. At the end of each month the Principal and Guidance Staff will pull one name from the Caught being Kind pool The winner of the drawing will receive a gift card to Wal-Mart.
Middle School Honor Roll: Students who meet the standards for honor roll are rewarded each quarter. They are invited to an Honor Roll Breakfast at the end of 1st and 2nd quarters. At the end of 3rd quarter students may attend a field trip. In the past Mrs. Davis has taken students snow tubing. Criteria for Honor Roll
National Junior Honor Society: Students who earn an average of 88 or higher in the 7th or 8th grade, can be inducted into the CMS National Junior Honor Society in the spring of the year they earn this average. A special ceremony is held with the current NJHS members, who "Tap In" new members, bestowing upon them this honor.
Intergenerational: Students involved in the inter-generational program spend an hour a week, interacting with senior citizens at a local retirement home. In the past students have been driven to Eden Park, and have played, talked and shared snacks with seniors in a memory care unit.
Peer Mediation: Each year 10 -20 students in grades 5 - 8 are trained as peer mediators. These students are trained to actively listen, to brainstorm solutions, and help their peers come to a mutually agreed upon solution.
Rachel's Challenge: During the 2007-2008 school year, the Catskill Middle and High school participated in a presentation from The Friends of Rachel. This is a group that goes around to schools spreading Rachel Scott's message of Kindness. During the Spring of 2008 many CMS students participated in Friend's of Rachel's activities, including writing Thank You cards to school staff, . Cleaning up Olana, and presenting work shops to foster understanding and acceptance of differences.
